Winterling Marktleuthen Bavaria Lidded Porcelain Serving Tureen - Burnished Gold Sunburst Decoration, c.1950

An elegant lidded serving tureen in fine white porcelain from Winterling, produced at their Marktleuthen factory in Bavaria, Germany. A distinguished maker with roots in the early twentieth century, Winterling supplied quality domestic and export porcelain throughout the post-war decades, and this piece represents the better end of their production.

The form is low and broad — a generously proportioned serving dish with twin gilt handles and a wide domed lid. The decoration is restrained and beautifully executed: a large burnished gold sunburst panel radiates from the centre of the lid, edged with a finely detailed foliate lace border in engraved gilt. A double gold line runs the rim of both dish and lid. The knop repeats the gilt treatment with characteristic precision. The body is a clean warm white throughout.

Marked to the base with the Winterling crowned "W" device, Marktleuthen, Bavaria — consistent with 1950s–60s production. A formal, elegant piece that would have graced a well-set dining table.
