An authentic Ridgway Potteries Homemaker dinner plate, designed by Enid Seeney and produced between 1957 and 1970 — originally sold exclusively through Woolworths. One of Britain's most recognisable and collected mid-century ceramic designs.

Description

Few pieces of British tableware carry the cultural weight of the Homemaker pattern. Designed by Enid Seeney and produced by Ridgway Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent from 1957, it was sold exclusively through Woolworths stores across the UK — making it one of the most widely distributed and yet most deliberately designed pieces of mid-century ceramics in Britain.

The pattern is a love letter to 1950s domestic aspiration. Rendered in bold black transfer print on white earthenware, it depicts the very best of the era's home furnishing design: a Robin Day reclining chair, a kidney-shaped coffee table, a Gordon Russell-style sideboard, atomic-era tripod lamps, a potted plant stand and scattered cutlery — all set against the signature cross-hatched line background. It captured exactly what a generation of postwar British households wanted their homes to look like.

Production ran until 1970, making genuine examples in excellent condition increasingly hard to find. This plate has no chips, cracks or significant wear — a wonderful display piece and a striking addition to any Homemaker collection.
